BIOGRAPHY
ILANA COHEN
Ilana Cohen was the Artistic director of the Inbal troupe from 1996 to 2008. Ilana Cohen is a dancer, choreographer and host of shows for twenty years, conducted workshops at the Jerusalem (Rubin) Academy of Music and dance.
Ilana Cohen received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 from "Emmy" of the Israel Artists Association and the Arik Einstein Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.
Ilana Cohen was born in Rehovot, educated in a kibbutz, where she began her dance studies with Nahum and Dina Shavor, the pioneers of dance in Israel.
During her military service as Gadna instructor, (Hebrew Youth Brigades) she began
her studies at the School of the Inbal Dance Theater.Company. Since 1964, she was
a dancer in the Inbal troupe.
Ilana Cohen attended courses in choreography with Sara Levy-Tanai, Bob Cohen, Anna Sokolov, Donal McKill, Jean Sil Sagan, Kata Kee, Mina Walmas, Oshra Elkayam, Rinat Sharett, Efrati.
In 1983 she was appointed artistic assistant of Inbal.
In 1996, artistic director of Inbal, the house choreography and host of shows with crowd activation.
Ilana Cohen produced choreographies and was directing works at Inbal Dance Theater:
1982 "Kina" (Lamentation) music by Shlomo Bar and costumes by Judith Grisphan, the piece was awarded to represent Inbal in Israel and around the world.
1987 "Im" (If) Music by Richard Farber and Costume by Judith Grisphan.
1988 "Ralah" (Veil) Music by Naps, and costumes by Racheli Sela .
1990 "Chetzi Galimat Malchut" (Half royal robe) - based on the story by Shlomit Cohen Asif, music by Oren and Dyslavsky,, costumes by Judit Grisphan, in collaboration with the actor Eli Gorenstein.
1991 "Talavot" ( cravings ) music by Ofer Shalhin, the work was commissioned by Yad Vashem on on the eve of Holocaust Day in the ghetto rebels.
1997 "Sajra" music by Racheli Sela, costumes by Miri Aloni, with the participation of the actor Matti Seri.
2001 "Shlomo Hamelech veMalkat Sheva'' (Shlomo the King and the Queen of Saba) written by Haim Idisis, music by Racheli Sela (show for children and youth).
2003 "Yakov ve Esav '' (Jacob and Esau) music by Racheli Sela, written by Haim Idisis.
2005 "Zramim" (Streams) music by Shlomo Bar.
2007 "David and Goliath" music by Racheli Sela, written by Haim Idisis (show for children).
Festivals
Ilana Cohen represented the Israel country :
- At the American dance festival in North Carolina in 1989.
- In a festival in Japan combining arts with the musician Tweeturi in 1999
- In South Africa "Dance Aberle" in 2000.
For twenty years Ilana Cohen conducted workshops at:
- the Rubin Dance Academy.
- the kibbutzim seminar, a partner in the tribute project and documentation of Sara Levy's work - a condition that was met at the dance school of the kibbutzim seminar..
Ilana Cohen was responsible for the artistic design and the training of the dancers for the show as a tribute to Levi - a condition to mark the 100th anniversary of her birth, at the 2011 Isha festival in Holon.
Ilana Cohen creates choreographies for folk groups:
- Rishon LeZion Shades group - "Desert"
- Hadera group - "Burning town" at the Karmiel festival,
- Meshgav group - "Adama", "Fahim" "Badawai" which performed at the Karmiel festival and festivals around the world.
Ilana Cohen was responsible for the renewal of seven works by Sarah Levy - Tanai..
